Abstract

This study aims to find the best conditions for the Fe2+ adsorption process using activated charcoal from a mixture of tea
waste and corncobs in a fixed-bed column (flow rate, bed height, and initial concentration of adsorbate), determine the
percentage removal of Fe2+, and select the appropriate adsorption model to predict breakthrough curve using the YoonNelson and Thomas model. The best adsorption process studies was carried out by varying the flow rate (5, 10, and 15
ml/min), bed height (1, 2, and 3 cm) and the initial concentration of adsorbate (50, 75, and 100 mg/L). The best Fe2+
adsorption process from the study was a flow rate of 5 ml/min, bed height of 3 cm, and the initial concentration of adsorbate
of 50 mg/L. The highest percentage of Fe2+ removal was 64.7%. The appropriate adsorption models to predict the
breakthrough curve were the Yoon-Nelson and Thomas models. The constants kTH and q0 were 0.000182 L/mg.min and
0.307 mg/g for the Thomas model, and kYN and were 0.009 min-1 and 6.2 min for the Yoon-Nelson model.
