Abstract

The experimental study of the effect of flanged diffuser construction on improving the performance of hybrid vertical
axis wind turbine (VAWT) is a collaboration of hybrid turbine technology and flanged diffuser technology innovation
which is expected to have a positive impact on enhancing wind turbine performance. The aims of this research are
designing the optimal construction of hybrid VAWT equipped with flanged diffuser, evaluating the performance of
VAWT equipped with flanged diffuser, and analyzing the effect of flanged diffuser construction on the performance of
hybrid VAWT. The experimental method applied in this research were literature study, design, manufacture, and
assembly of tools. Furthermore, the testing stage of hybrid VAWT without and with flanged diffuser was carried out in
the laboratory with various variations in wind speed, but before that a validation process was performed. Based on the
results obtained, it can be concluded that the addition of a flanged diffuser is able to have a positive effect on the
performance of hybrid VAWT which increases the value of turbine efficiency and system efficiency produced.
