Abstract
The rapid advancement of digital technology in the construction industry has introduced innovations such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), which enables the integrated management of project information through three-dimensional models. This study discusses the implementation of BIM in the planning of a steel truss bridge with a case study of the Barombong Bridge in Makassar City. Two software applications were used: Allplan Bridge, specifically designed for bridge modeling, and Autodesk Revit, which is more commonly used in building modeling. The objective of this research is to identify the modeling process using both applications and to compare their effectiveness and efficiency.
The research method included collecting primary data from direct field measurements and secondary data from the bridge's shop drawings. These were modeled in 3D using both Allplan Bridge and Autodesk Revit. The key finding is that while both applications are capable of 3D steel truss bridge modeling, Autodesk Revit outperforms Allplan Bridge in terms of flexibility, effectiveness, and time efficiency due to its templates, copying, and parametric tools. In contrast, Allplan Bridge generates smaller file sizes but requires more time due to its manual modeling requirements.
Therefore, the application of BIM using Autodesk Revit is considered more effective and efficient for modeling steel truss bridges compared to Allplan Bridge. This research is expected to serve as a reference for BIM implementation in infrastructure projects, particularly bridges, and to encourage the broader adoption of digital technologies in Indonesia’s construction sector.
