Abstract

Experimental investigation into the effect of a wind deflector on Savonius-Darrieus turbine is a combination of
hybrid turbine and wind deflector technology innovation which are expected to have positive impact on increasing wind
turbine performance. The stages of experimental investigation are conducting field observations, designing a SavoniusDarrieus

hybrid, designing a wind deflector with plate angle of 0
o
, testing a hybrid VAWT without and with a wind
deflector. Based on the results obtained, the addition of a wind deflector on the Savonius-Darrieus hybrid turbine is able to produce a larger turbine rotor rotation value than the hybrid turbine without a wind deflector. The increment
percentage of Savonius-Darrieus hybrid turbine performance due to the addition of a wind deflector is very dependent on
the input wind speed received. The highest performance increase was obtained by 59.62% when the turbine was
operating in 3 m/s wind speed.
