Abstract

This study examines the optimization of rice bran oil extraction which contain maximum carotenoid and chlorophyl. The
study applies the Response Surface Methodology, a Central Composite Design model that uses the variables of temperature,
time, and volume of ethanol as a solvent. The midpoint of the design is a temperature of 80oC, a time of 1.5 h, and a volume
of ethanol of 450 mL, the parameters studied were total carotenoids and chlorophyl of rice bran oil. The result showed that
in the reflux method of extracting rice bran oil, carotenoid and chlorophyl were obtained of 9.93 mg/kg and 11.59 mg/kg,
respectively. The process caried out under process conditions of 75.85oC, 1.2 h, and the volume of ethanol was 548.4
mL/100 g of rice bran. The ethanol is suitable for the extraction of carotenoid and chlorophyl in rice bran.
