Abstract

The present study investigated the performance of a vacuum tray dryer using ejector. The performance observed was related to energy efficiency and drying period of using the ejector comparing with the dryer with atmosphere pressure. The drying process experiment was carried out at temperature ranging from 60 to 65 0C, while vacuum pressure ranging from 970 to 972 kPa. The drying process applied for solid materials e.g. cocoa and coffee beans where its moisture ranging from 28 to 35 %. It was found that energy efficient of using the vacuum dryer was lower 5 % and the drying time tend to be faster 1 hour than using dryer with atmosphere pressure. The energy consumption at a vacuum drying conditions revealed a potential energy reduction by about 5 % using assisted the ejector steam.
