Abstract

The densities of RO(R=Ca, Mg)-Al2O3-Fe2O3-SiO2 , was measured using the Archimedean double-bob method in the temperature range 1350 – 1550 ⁰C.The density of RO(R=Ca, Mg)-Al2O3-Fe2O3-SiO2 decreased linearly with increasing temperature due to activation of molecular and cutting the network structure due to thermal dissociation. Density increased with increasing [Fe₂O₃]/[RO], molar volume and ionic packing ratio were found sharply increased, it is presumed that Fe₂O₃ is present as Fe2+ and Fe3+ with oxygen coordination number octahedral more than tetrahedral in the melts.Density decreased with increasing [Al₂O₃]/[RO], molar volume and ionic packing ratio sharply and sloppily increased respectively, it is presumed that Al₂O₃ is present as Al3+ with oxygen coordination number tetrahedral in the melts.
