Abstract

As a plant ginger has enormous health benefits. Pucak is one of the village in South Sulawesi precisely in Maros district. Ginger harvest in this village is wasted and can only last up to 3 months and farmers only can sell it in a village area, which means if there is no buyer, ginger will not be properly consumed anymore. Pucak ginger has 4 farmers group; they have crop ± 3 ton ginger per year and it only can be stored in the warehouse. Ginger consumes directly by the people in Pucak. It is very limited product and it largely purchases only in herbal medicine industry, therefore the team conduct efforts to preserve ginger into powder and to produce other products such as chocolate and candy. The technology transfer is to increase the ginger storage and to expand large market share. The item of products such as ginger powder, chocolate and candy were made as product demonstration to the villagers in practically consumes ginger. The product also available in ginger powder to make it easy for people to simply enjoy ginger beverages in hot or cold water and ready to serve anytime, as well as candy and chocolate are ready to be consumed. The community service team aims to enlighten the knowledge of farmer groups as partner through knowledge sharing and technology transfer methods for processing and packaging ginger. In addition, the team has special purpose of transferring science and technology to farmers group in improving the storage of ginger and processing into other products. The methods provided in counseling, training and direct practicing by applying appropriate technology equipment. The other method is counseling by giving the theoretical benefits of ginger and packaging method and also system of marketing is conducted by applying direct selling promotion method in mini market nearby the village area.
